Under Obama- Criminals Win
In August 2011, owners of a small family operated gun shop in New Mexico were arrested for gun trafficking. The family of four (Rick Reese, his wife Terri, and their two sons, Ryan and Remington) were accused of selling weapons illegally to Mexican gun smugglers. It would be six months before Terri Reese was granted bail and was released from jail. Rick and his sons were considered to be flight risks, and therefore were never granted bail.
Interestingly, all of this came down right on the heels of the “Fast and Furious” scandal. In what has been described by some as a “speedy Kangaroo trial”, Rick Reese and his family were expeditiously jailed. By all appearances, the Obama Administration, and in particular Eric Holder, needed a diversion from the failed “Fast and Furious” operation. For those who are unfamiliar with or have forgotten about the “Fast and Furious” operation, you can read about it here. The story surrounding the Reese family would provide the Obama Administration with a convenient two-fold objective. It would first serve as an opportunity to divert attention away from Eric Holder, and second it would further the administration’s efforts for increased gun regulation.
However, there were a number of problems with the Reese situation. An undercover informant, Penny Torres, had been sent to the Reese’s place of business on various occasions to make firearm purchases. In each case, the Reese family member involved in the sale followed proper protocol, had a background check performed, and had each sale approved by the FBI. In addition to that, all paperwork was correct, all transactions were properly recorded, and all inventory records were in order.
Ironically, after one of the purchases, Terri Reese began to suspect something was not quite right. She called a local law enforcement officer with whom she was familiar and informed him that she felt she may have sold guns to someone she now suspects to be a gunwalker (a term used to describe those who buy guns and illegally carry them over the border into Mexico). This was somewhat disturbing to her because all purchases that were made by Torres had been approved by the FBI after a supposed background check. Nonetheless, the Reese family had their lives flipped upside down. (Last January, Jeff Knox at www.wnd.com wrote an article with developments surrounding the Reese family issues.)
While all of this was going on, the “Fast and Furious” operation was starting to gain traction in Congress and in February 2012, Eric Holder would eventually testify before Congress. Darrell Issa, a California Republican who headed the House Oversight and Government Committee investigation into “Fast and Furious” demanded access to additional documents from Eric Holder’s Justice Department in order for the investigation to proceed. Holder denied this request and was threatened with contempt charges. Ultimately, the Obama Administration invoked “executive privilege” to deny the release of those documents, perhaps in an effort to cover up any wrongdoing.
All of this tells us that laws aren’t equally applied (if at all). If you are a law abiding citizen, you are evidently in a different class. It is apparently fair to send a family to jail for alleged involvement in gunwalking activities, even after following the law, and after a federal agency (FBI) supported every gun sale. It is also apparently fair to deny Congress access to information that might implicate the Obama Administration in gunwalking activities in an effort to keep them free from the law.
So as we turn the calendar to 2016, Obama’s administration is ready to do more damage. He and his administration are prepared to announce new executive actions on guns. Law abiding business owners and law abiding citizens are once again about to pay another price. “We know that we can’t stop every act of violence,” Obama said. “But what if we tried to stop even one? What if Congress did something — anything — to protect our kids from gun violence?”
Isn’t it sad to see Obama increasingly exploiting children to rationalize his radical agenda? What about all of those children who die each year at the hands of Planned Parenthood? Let Congress do something to protect those children. But I digress…
A New Year’s Eve threat of violence was averted just the other day. The alleged attacker was planning on using a machete in an attack on diners in Rochester, NY. Had it not been averted, what gun law would have prevented it? I think it’s only fair for the Obama Administration to explain in detail exactly which law(s), if enacted, would have prevented any of the mass shootings that he continues to politicize. Which law(s) does he believe will make criminals have a change of heart and make them willing to comply?
You see, under Obama the criminals win. Lawless actions are seemingly okay, especially if you and your administration might be complicit in them. Law abiding citizens already follow the law. The Reese family was following the law. And you and I will follow the law, even under stricter regulation. As for criminals? Not likely.
